about
Moy Mackay was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1966. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1990 with a BA (Hons) degree in Design. Since then, she has lived and worked in the Scottish Borders.
Moy's richly coloured works combine traditional felting techniques in a painterly way using merino tops. This organic medium gives her work extraordinary warmth and texture, and calls for a fine balance between spontaneity and control. The finished work always carries an element of surprise - something Moy particularly enjoys. Moy's passion is for colour and her work asserts this with luminous vitality. By using merino in such a painterly way, she has created a very personal and innovative approach to visual expression.
The main inspiration for Moy's work is her surroundings in the rural heart of the beautiful Tweed Valley.
Over the past few years, Moy has exhibited widely in solo exhibitions at prestigious venues throughout Scotland, as well as in London and the US. She works from WASPS Artists' Studios in Selkirk, in the Scottish Borders.
