Jan’s paintings are made with Acrylic,Collage or Pastels and sometimes a mixture of media. They are Semi representational. It’s about design for the artist and capturing a feel. Combining colours and shapes, working on placement of tone, making  marks, doing what she loves, whilst looking beyond the reality. Jan’s main inspiration are places in North East Scotland, quiet fishing towns and harbours as well as Still Life arrangements.

More recently she has turned to painting pure abstracts. These arrive from a sense of play initially followed by a more thoughtful editing to find the hidden treasures. Using knowledge of composition and design to get to the balance at the end. There are many layers providing a history in the making.
