Imagine painting the wild Andalusian coast without a single brushstroke. Join award-winning artist Moy Mackay in Spain for a felting and stitching retreat where merino fleece becomes your paint and one of Europe's most dramatic landscapes becomes your muse. If you've ever been even a little curious about felting, this is your moment. Felt is a wonderfully forgiving medium: colors blend without ever turning muddy, and if you don't like where something sits, you simply pick it up and move it.
Whether you've never touched a tuft of wool or you've been working with fiber for years, Moy will guide you in turning the fiery colors of southern Spain into vibrant felted landscapes and still lifes that feel completely your own.
Enjoy daily classes, demonstrations, and plenty of guidance from Moy as you explore felt painting from your very first sketch to the very last stitch. You will learn a range of key techniques such as wet felting, needle felting, hand stitching, and mark-making, starting from smaller samples and building to larger, finalized works.
Beyond your classes, you will set out on two exciting trips. On a half-day trip to Cabo de Gata Natural Park and the fishing village of San José, you'll stand before volcanic cliffs plunging into turquoise water, where every curve of rock and sea is begging to be captured in wool. Then comes a full-day trip to Almería, with a guided visit to the magnificent La Alcazaba, a historic fortress overflowing with carved arches, sun-warmed stone, and dazzling mosaics.
Stay in your own private room between sessions, and gather each evening for chef-prepared meals and wine with your fellow artists. Whatever your starting point, you'll find yourself among a warm, welcoming community of like-minded creatives!
