WINTER MAKERS

Moy Mackay will lead the retreat, sharing her distinctive approach to felted artwork, colour, texture, landscape, and stitch.

Throughout the week, guests will be guided through the process of developing their own felted pieces, from initial inspiration and sketching through to colourwork, layering, felting, composition, and finishing details.

With expert tuition and a supportive retreat setting, each guest will have the space to develop their own creative voice while being surrounded by the quiet beauty of the winter Highlands.

THE ART OF WINTER FELT

During the retreat, students will create a series of felt artworks inspired by the winter landscape around Glencruitten House and the surrounding Oban coastline.

The creative focus will include:

Day 1 — Arrival at Glencruitten House
Arrival from 4pm, followed by welcome drinks, introductions, and dinner.

Day 2 — First Studio Day
Begin the creative journey with Moy Mackay, exploring inspiration, colour, composition, and the first stages of felted work.

Day 3 — Winter Layers
Continue developing your artwork through layering, texture, felting techniques, and guided creative support.

Day 4 — Free Day in Oban
A relaxed day to explore Oban at your own pace. Guests may wander the harbour, browse local shops and galleries, enjoy a relaxed lunch in town, take in the sea air, or simply return to Glencruitten House for a quiet afternoon of rest and creative reflection.

This day offers space to gather inspiration from the coastline, winter light, local textures, and the surrounding Highland landscape before returning to Glencruitten House for dinner.

Day 5 — Back to the Studio
Return to the studio with fresh ideas from the winter scenery, coastline, and Highland surroundings.

Day 6 — Finishing Touches
Refine and progress individual pieces with guidance, stitch work, composition adjustments, and time for focused making.

Day 7 — Final Studio Session & Celebration Evening
Complete final works, followed by a celebratory dinner with live music.

Day 8 — Departure
Breakfast and departure from Glencruitten House.

Booking & Deposits

A £2200 deposit secures your space. This is fully refundable should the retreat not proceed due to minimum number thresholds not being met. Final payments will be requested in two instalments if not paid at time of accommodation selection.

Deposits are non refundable. Refunds may be given on early cancellations should we be able to fill the space. Late cancellations are non refundable.

Travel & Transfers

Guests generally fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh airports and take the train or bus to Oban. Glencruitten is a 5 minute taxi ride from the station. Shuttle drivers may be possible from airports. Glasgow airport is around 2 hours drive and Edinburgh 4 hours so train or bus to Oban itself is the best option where possible.

Guests are kindly asked to wait to book flights until the retreat is confirmed to proceed.
